Meet Charles Martinez

Charles Martinez LAc is an acupuncturist and herbalist, Licensed in the state of California, as well as a Postural Alignment Specialist certified through the Egoscue Institute. Charles’ practice is heavily focused on pain management, sports injury, and peak performance. Through a very multifaceted approach the treatment options range from acupuncture and herbal medicine to postural assessment/exercises, cupping, gua sha, and a specialty in Tui Na sports massage. This method allows the treatments to address the current pain and functional limitations as well as address the root causes of the issues for greater efficacy. Charles holds a Master’s of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine as well as an Associates of Applied Science in Holistic Health from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine – San Diego.

Charles is a life long athlete, martial artist and coach. With over 24 years of Martial Arts and fitness experience Charles is a top MMA and Kickboxing coach having worked with every level of student from beginner to professional fighter. Charles has trained fighters for almost every major fight event in the world. (UFC, Bellator, LFA, Glory, Lion Fights, etc). His own journey in training was what led him to pursue this knowledge in healing the body. After suffering some rather serious injuries training/fighting, and subsequent surgery Charles was left with limited ROM, constant pain, and weakness in certain areas. Feeling that the western physical therapy route had provided little in the way of improvement post surgery as well as zero in the way of preventative treatments, he found Tui Na Massage and Acupuncture. After completing almost 10 years in the US Navy Charles decided to go to school for Acupuncture with the hope of preventing the next generation of martial artists and fighters from lacking the tools to perform at their best without destroying their bodies.

As a veteran, martial artist, and parent, Charles has strong ties to helping people in those areas. Charles treats many fighters, military personnel and their families. With a very straight forward communication style patients will receive clear information on what to expect, likely outcome of treatments, logical treatment plans to address current issues as well as maintenance phases of treatment to prevent future problems. Charles has a strong belief that an integrated holistic approach to health will ultimately result in a much better experience. This thought process will hopefully provide a way to include these treatments into life in order to not just address pain or dysfunction, but improve overall quality of life. This medicine is not a patch to keep you going, it’s a way of looking at overall health that can move us away from being an over medicated, detached from the body culture and return us to seeing the interconnection between all aspects of our being affecting out physical state. Your body is one whole unit and every aspect affects every other, acupuncture and an integrated Chinese medicine approach can provide the missing link which is quickly being lost in western society.
